Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop Review

Fast and lightweight everyday laptop.

Upgrades

I ordered an Acer Aspire 5 Slim laptop from Amazon.ca on December 31, 2021 for $791.00 CDN. This laptop comes with 4GB of onboard RAM and 8GB of RAM installed in the single slot. I upgraded the 8GB of RAM to 16GB for a total of 20GB of RAM. I also added another 256GB SSD in the single and open 2.5” drive socket.

Design

This laptop is very fast and lightweight but it’s not very slim. There isn’t an SD card slot and the fan blows dust, from the back of the laptop, up and onto the display. This laptop’s display has a strong hinge design that lifts the back of the laptop up for better airflow under the laptop.

Performance

The Intel Core i5-1135G7 Processor and Intel Iris Xe graphics card perform well enough for medium-complex processor-based tasks. Everyday personal and business related tasks like browsing the internet, streaming media and editing short videos are easily completed. This isn’t a gaming laptop and the integrated graphics card won’t run the latest games, even on the lowest settings. I'm a professional industrial designer, product designer and 3D model designer. I use this laptop for 3D modeling a lot and I don't render my 3D models.
